About: Best case scenario, you wouldn't be reading a bio on this band. You would be at their live show witnessing first-hand their level of communication, musical camaraderie, and honesty - the type of stuff that a story-sized piece of writing can't really cover.
Everest features Russell Pollard(vocals and guitars), Jason Soda(guitars, keys and vocals), Joel Graves(guitars, keys and vocals), Rob Douglas(bass guitar and vocals), and Davey Latter(drums and percussion). The idea for the band began when Pollard began to share songs he had written with his close friends Soda and Graves. They soon began to collaborate on the songs "Into Your Soft Heart" and "Only In Your Mind," and decided to record them right away. With the musical additions of Douglas and Latter in the studio, they became a full-fledged band.
The Los Angeles Times described Everest's music as "intricate California folk-pop," but on stage the songs can range from pretty and subtle, to loud and unhinged. RockInsider.com boasts, "They're on the druggier, sleepier side of the latest indie-country wave, but their songwriting is way stronger and (gasp!) actually unique, and they play with about two busloads more feel, coherence, and dynamics than anybody else yer Uncle's had the pleasure to hear." LAist proclaims,"It's hard not to expect Herculean things from Everest in 2008" while selecting the band as their pick as "Big in '08".
Everest has recorded their debut album "Ghost Notes" with friend and Grammy-nominated producer Mike Terry (Earlimart, Foo Fighters, The Eagles) at Elliott Smith's former New Monkey Studio in Los Angeles, CA. A limited 12" 45rpm single and CD EP containing 3 songs from the band's first sessions is available now, and the full-length album will be available on Vapor Records on May 6th, 2008.
